About
Mr. Pom
(The Storyteller)
José Juan Pomales López
(Author & Educator)
Mr. Pom, also known as José Juan Pomales López, is a Puerto Rican author, educator, and creative storyteller dedicated to inspiring children through music, culture, and imagination.
From a young age, José explored the arts through dance, acting, and cultural performances across Puerto Rico. His passion for global understanding led him to study International Studies at the University of Dayton, where he also participated in the Semester at Sea program—traveling across multiple countries and experiencing diverse cultures firsthand.
These life-changing experiences became the inspiration behind Coquichy Adventures: World of Smile Tunes, a story that celebrates identity, belonging, and the universal language of music.
José currently serves as a Student Services Specialist at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy in Puerto Rico, where he supports and mentors students while promoting educational initiatives.
Beyond his professional work, José is a Christian and believes in using storytelling to nurture purpose, kindness, and the unique gifts within every child. Through his work as Mr. Pom, he hopes to help children discover who they are, embrace where they come from, and find their own “Smile Tune.”
